Nigel Aw is a journalist with Malaysiakini, Malaysia's leading independent news site. Earlier this year his work won an award for editorial excellence in investigative reporting from the Hong Kong-based Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA). His winning series was a four-part investigative report titled ‘The rise of the Johor royal family’s business empire,’ which the judges called a “rare and successful attempt to pull open the veil that hides the activities of Malaysia’s royal families.”
