Ashoka Mukpo is a freelance journalist and researcher. From 2012-2014, he was based in Monrovia, Liberia, working as an investigator with a local advocacy organization that monitors extractive industry operations in the country. During the Ebola crisis, he wrote and shot video for a number of news outlets. At the height of the outbreak he contracted the virus and was evacuated to the United States for treatment. His work has appeared in The Guardian, The Atlantic, VICE News, and the Washington Post, among others. Former staff member at Human Rights Watch.
