Waruna Sanjeewa Liyanage has been a journalist for over twenty years and has experience in many print and electronic media institutions.
He entered the media field as a feature writer for one of Sri Lanka's leading national newspapers and later worked as an editor and sub-editor of several newspapers. He later joined the electronic media, where he also worked as a news editor and contributed to the reporting of various local and international events as a journalist.He obtained the Diploma in Journalism from the University of Colombo in 1998 with distinction and won many awards including the Lakshman Jayawardena Gold medal at the course. During his media career, he has been involved in various reporting, including investigative reports, covering various areas of journalism.He joined Derana Media Channel, a leading media institution in Sri Lanka in 2009 as a News Editor and later as its Assistant Manager and is currently working as a News Manager. As a journalist, he has participated in many local and foreign media conferences, as well as the Global Investigative Journalism Conference in Norway in 2015, 2017 in South Africa, and in Germany in 2019. Waruna Sanjeewa Liyanage also works as a trainer in the field of media, including investigative journalism, in association with various institutions. He holds a Master’s Degree in Mass Media from the University of Colombo as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism. His research book, titled Investigative Journalism, Global and National perspective has been published recently.
